Moving a screen onto an arm can open the patch of desktop beneath its stand. On a shallow desk, the less visible question is what happens behind the screen: some joints fold toward the wall, while others bring the display forward.
The screen, supporting desk and moving arm form one installation. A screen-size label cannot describe that whole arrangement.
The folded shape matters
An arm’s dimensional drawing shows more than maximum reach. The folded depth reveals whether the desk needs space from the wall. The screen’s corners also occupy different positions when rotated to portrait.
A paper outline of the screen at the intended viewing position can show how much of the desk remains available. The original stand remains an alternative when mounting cannot be confirmed.
The attachment is a separate fit
A monitor’s exact model supplies the VESA mounting pattern, weight without its stand and any adapter requirements. Recessed mounting areas can introduce another clearance issue. Adjustable arms may have a minimum as well as a maximum supported weight.
The desk edge has its own geometry: thickness, bevel, frame, drawer, apron or cable tray. A clamp needs full approved contact above and below the intended edge.

Glass, hollow-core, thin, damaged or otherwise unsuitable desks require explicit manufacturer confirmation. A reinforcement plate does not automatically make an unsupported installation suitable. Rental permissions and physical support are separate questions.
Paid link: the untested Single-monitor arm (VIVO STAND-V001 monitor arm) lists VESA 75 x 75 or 100 x 100 mm and a 22 lb / 10 kg maximum. The exact variant, desk support and clamp clearance still determine compatibility.
Access after installation
Ports, tension screws and tightening knobs need to remain accessible once the desk is back in place. Cable slack has to accommodate every intended position without tension or snagging.
A compact fit sheet can hold the monitor model, mounting pattern, supported weight range, desk construction, clamp clearance and folded depth. Any unresolved field is a question for the relevant manufacturer. Installation sequence, included hardware and any requirement for a second person come from the exact model’s instructions.
